Having worked in the community services field for over twenty years, I have been offered many professional challenges. I have had the opportunity to be a part of Ireland’s first dedicated self-harm centre, have spent the last 10 years providing clinical supervision and training to a residential team and managed a fully supported and semi-supported residential service, community development projects and accreditation processes. In between times, I have worked for government and community based organisations as both a consultant and clinician.
I have had extensive experience working with high-risk clients who exhibit self- harming behaviours; specialising in trauma counselling and providing case management to clients with complex backgrounds and needs. My work has also extended to victims of crime who often have manifold needs. This experience has led to the development of my unique and effective strategies and programs delivered in an inclusive and compassionate manner. These same strategies translate to my work with family units and carers in times of crisis or ongoing need.
As a champion for those in need, I believe that professionals working within their realm also require the highest levels of support, mentoring and professional development. As a result, I have developed short PD courses, workshops and longer term mentoring plans that assist other professionals to provide services in the best possible ways using the most powerful, inclusive and effective techniques and tools.
Every day I see and work with people from all backgrounds who have faced immeasurable challenges, who have intolerably low confidence and who have been exposed to unacceptable levels of negativity and injustice. My aim is to give them the tools to develop emotional independence, educational freedom, responsibility of self and the ability to engage in life with positivity and purpose. I am motivated by the belief that every person deserves the basic rights of good health, good mental health, education, justice and equality. I believe that every person deserves to be their very best self.
